A short communication which assesses the process of initial development of biofilms on nets used for fish culture in marine systems. Settlement follows a pattern of succession through conditioning, bacteria and diatoms with associated Extracellular Polymeric Substance (EPS) and other microscopic algae and fauna. Initial settlement appears to accelerate further settlement.en_UK
