For innovation policies to become effective, smoothly functioning interfaces between innovation agents, assembling resources from diverse sectors of the economy, and sound strategy development and policy implementation are all required. PPPs have been used by government in the field of innovation policy for a variety of purposes from providing the organizational frame for ‘producing’ innovations: developing a new product, a new process, a new form of economic organization etc. and bringing it to the market. However, as discussed below, there are variations in PPPs along divergent institutional, political, historical and cultural settings as well as along differing strategic objects of the PPPs. The rest of the chapter presents out an overview of PPPs, before considering PPPs specifically in relation to innovation policy and then concluding.en_UK
