First paragraph: ‘Gender and transport' has grown as an area of transport policy and planning but much of this growth has happened at the level of ‘grey' literatures - that is consultancy documents commissioned by governmental and international agencies to inform gender planning processes which remain outside of the domain of academic publications - and at the level of the planning practices of the international agencies and projects sponsored by the international agencies. The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have both taken an important policy lead in pursuing a ‘gender and transport' agenda in respect of transport policy frameworks and transport project design. However, the gap between specific, specialist consultant knowledge on specific gender patterns in specific transport locations and the advent of an increasingly, professionally shared and applied gender analytic framework in the understanding of transport organisation is a large one.en_UK
