First paragraph: A growing body of literature has emerged in the last 30 years on the topic of career transitions in sport (Taylor & Ogilvie, 1994). Numerous empirical studies have been conducted on the topic in this time, and several counselling-based perspectives have been offered to assist athletes with the career transition process. In addition, a Special Interest Group on Career Transitions in Sport was initiated by researchers and practitioners in 1993 to exchange information on investigative and applied work in the area. It would appear, therefore, that research in the area of career transitions from sport, is itself, in a period of rapid and extensive transition (Grove, Lavallee, Gordon, & Harvey, in press).en_UK
