Egypt is also the world’s eighth-largest aquaculture producer, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), producing more than 1.6 million tons in 2019, of which the vast majority (66 percent) is Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).en_UK
