Abstract: | Research commissioned by the London Assembly: The IOC provides a comprehensive library of reports and bid documentation for each summer Olympiad. The bid documents of all applicant cities and the IOC evaluation of the bids are contained on the IOC website. Each host city has also been required to provide a comprehensive report on the Games and its legacy; this takes the form of a final report typically published about two years after the completion of the Games. These documents offer a useful starting point for an economic evaluation of each Olympic event. Most non-IOC economic impact studies have focused upon specific cities and events and have not utilised indicators that may be transposed easily from one host city to another. The main exception is Preuss (2004). There is also a significant literature relating to the development of the IOC’s Olympic Global Games Impact Study (OGGI). |
