| Abstract: | A reassessment of Robert Bruce/I's dealings with Scotland's parliament (1306-29) to challenege the idea that he simply initimidated and manipulated this assembly, arguing that in fact such an assembly surely pressurised his regime to respond on matters such as succession, war/foreign policy, inheritance, war damages, famine/disease, finance, the conduct of royal officers, justice/laws etc, and that his reign thus saw a dynamic development of the representational, participative and supervisory role of the estates in Scotland. |
