| Abstract: | A Note on the Dating of Barhobble Chapel Bones and the Historical Context of their Deposition Richard Oram The context and significance of a small cache of human bone apparently deliberately inserted into the structure of a medieval altar, discovered during excavation of the ruined chapel at Barhobble in Wigtownshire in the 1980s, is re-examined in the light of recent C14 determinations. Their re-dating raises interesting questions concerning the development of local cults in 13th-century Galloway and the wider processes of cult-formation in the Gaelic areas of Scotland. |
