dc.description.abstract | This research analyses lexical bundles (cf. Biber, Conrad and Cortes 2004), found in essays written by children in the Brazilian 5th and 6th years (average age 12-14) from a rural and an urban community. The research objective was to identify possible profiles emerging from their writing in terms of their world views and their textual organization. To this end, two corpora were compiled consisting of 12,205 and 14,662 words each. From these same corpora four-word lexical bundles were extracted and subsequently analyzed in terms of structure and function. The analyses reflect two different profiles. ln contrast to the writing by the children from the rural area, those from the urban milieu failed to express a collective world view by means of repeated textual and functional patterns. | en_UK |
