| Abstract: | First paragraph: William Henry Temple Gairdner ist einer der bedeutendsten christlichen Denker zum Thema Islam im frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Obwohl Samuel Zwemer, sein Kollege und Freund in Kairo, in vielen Kreisen eher bekannt/berüchtigt ist, z.T. wegen seines aggressiven Verhaltens und seiner Einstellung der Konfrontation dem Islam gegenüber,2 hatte Gairdner, obwohl er auch als christlicher Missionar unter Muslimen tätig war, ein relativ positives und freundliches Verständnis vom Islam: er hat sich konstruktiv mit Muslimen auseinandergesetzt und mit Bedacht den Islam als Glauben und als kulturelles Vehikel gewürdigt. |
