Abstract: | The essay constitutes the first comprehensive exploration of the location and format of the surviving (and known lost) tombs of the episcopate of medieval Scotland since the early 18th century. It identifies the known burial-places of the bishops of the 13 pre-Reformation dioceses, discussing the form of their tombs, locations within the churches, and general trends that can be identified from this evidence. |
