Abstract: First paragraph: We are pleased to introduce the Midwifery Special Series on Early Labour and to acknowledge the help and support of Midwifery's editorial team, in addition to the insightful contribution of the authors of papers included in the series. The series will continue through 2013 and so the papers introduced here represent only the first few contributions.
