Abstract: First Paragraph Between 2011 and 2022, the proportion of current smokers among adult population in the UK declined from 20.2% to 11.9%. 1 In contrast to this, a review showed that the prevalence of smoking among people experiencing homelessness ranged between 57% and 82%. 2 People who experience homelessness have poor health, to which smoking significantly contributes, especially respiratory and lung health outcomes. 3 Conservative estimates put costs of secondary and emergency care among people experiencing homelessness four times the level of the general population. 4 The health inequality between those experiencing homelessness and the general population is evident. There is an urgent need to help people accessing homelessness support to stop smoking so to reduce the inequality gaps.
