| Abstract: | Advanced practice roles involve a number of clinical decisions including assessment, prescribing, referring and discharging patients (Appendix 3). The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role requires the nurse to be an autonomous independent practitioner. The ANP utilises advanced clinical nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills to independently provide optimum patient care through caseload management of acute injuries and illness within the Emergency Department (ED). Therefore the ANP in the ED is faced with clinical decision making challenges on a daily basis. |
